Unit 65 Assignment 2

Website 1: YHA Australia

Visual Style: the style of the website is bright and vibrant. It’s clear what kind of market its trying to attract when you view it straight away. The colours are all bold and beaming with looks it’s easy enough to tell it’s meant for a young audience, somewhere around 18 to 25 I would guess. The colours all contrast each other too. What I mean by this is the colours all make the text stand out which means it’s easily visible to someone. They don’t make it look like they are mixing together and it’s not very visible. It’s bold. What I like most though is the layout of the website. Everything has its space and fits perfectly on the page. It’s not cramped or squashed together, it looks clean and edgy.

Colour Palettes: the colour on the website all look great as I’ve said. The image to the left shows what I’m trying to explain. The colour on the website has a theme of blue and white/grey, which also mixes in a whole various amount of colours.

Typography: the text has different elements of being quite bold but also normal. It uses a sans serif font on the pages and this really highlights what target audience it’s attracting. The boldness shows that it’s big and shouting out at you, and the fact it’s all in capitals highlights this too. The page is for youths all over, not just showing that because the page is called ‘YHA’, but the page is definitely showing that.

Sounds: the page doesn’t have any sounds.

Interactivity: the interactivity with the page is rather basic. Nothing really that special, you have to click specific buttons to get directed to the link. The thing that did make me surprised was the image of the Australian map in the centre of the page. It’s completely interactive even when you scroll the mouse over the image. Not only that, it even changes when you scroll onto the text which makes the whole image completely interactive.

Website 2: Oz Intro

Visual Style: the overall style of the website can only be described by me as very blue. The whole layout has this bright and blue background that I think is supposed to represent the sea in Australia as being something quite bright, blue and clean. The website is made to look like an adventure or a holiday that’s showing images of what happened. The images look like Polaroid’s for an old camera. In all of the images, the people are all smiling and happy about where they are. This is something that attracts the audience to going. As you can see in most of the images too, all of the people are young. They all look around 18-25 so you know this is something for a younger audience.

Colour Palette: the colour is very bright. From the looks of the background it looks like a real image of the sea with a boat riding through the waves, but it’s more than likely Photoshopped. The colour of the text too is a bright yellow to represent the sun which is always gleaming in Australia.

Typography: the text is very bold and easy to read. The text is in a big font and in white so it’s easily visible with the blue background. The font is normal Calibri Body which is very plain to put on a website that is so bright. All of the big titles are all Photoshopped first before they were put on the site. They are not a normal text, somebody has edited it themselves.

Sounds: there are no sounds on the website.

Animation: the website has no animations either. The website looks very advanced, but it is quite basic.
